The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure ~1 Corinthians 10:13

Did you know that God gives us a sure promise to provide a way out for every temptation we encounter? To be clear He did not say we would not be tempted. In fact, temptation is a sure thing. We are to expect it and prepare for it. Being naive only serves to weaken our resolve.

But even in the throes of temptation, we have hope for His help so be on the lookout for the ‘God-door’. Pre-commitment to pivot requires readiness and intention because escape will not happen because you want it to happen; it will happen because you decide it will happen.

Our exercise for the week is practicing the pivot. Creating a solid pivot plan is an essential strategy for change. Simply put, pivoting is changing directions. But in order to change directions we must first change our mind. This move—changing our mind in the moment of temptation—is the pivot point on which the tide of our success will turn.

When we choose to trust God instead of giving into our impulses we find the sense of urgency lessens with each step forward and the freer we feel to try it again. Speed is also imperative to the pivot. The faster you make this decision, the greater your chances of escape will be.

Keep in mind, most of us have a predictable pattern of behavior that has developed as a result of our craving. Putting a pivot in place and changing just one part of the routine will alter the course of your success.

Be bold. Be brave. Be free.

Tell Me More:

  1. Make one small but very intentional change to your routine.
  2. Set up guardrails and guideposts that act as boundaries and reminders to keep you on track and moving towards the change you desire.
  3. Be on the lookout for your ‘God-door’ and be prepared to walk through it.
