But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded ~2 Chronicles 15:7
There is a great quote by James Clear that says, “You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
Meaning—goals set the direction but systems set the course.
If we don’t follow a specified course of action we will never arrive at our intended destination. In other words, practicing simple prompts each day over wishing and wanting it to happen is how we will get there.
As we head into this brave new year we can’t help our natural inclination to dream of better. Better habits. Better goals. Better relationships. Better something, anything, perhaps everything.
For some this practice of setting goals might seem cliche, but in reality this bent towards better is in our DNA. More specifically, it’s in our spiritual DNA and therefore drives us towards the better that’s wired deep within our soul.
With this spiritually driven directive to stretch beyond who we are to who we were created to be I’d like to challenge us to go beyond our goals to the simple systems that will get us to where we want to go.
Think of one area of growth you want for 2022. This is most likely something that affirms the healthiest part of yourself, so this identity-based goal is a good starting place. However, most of us don’t venture far enough beyond what we want to how we will get there. So in order to achieve the success we desire we must put a system in place to follow.
The key is to keep it simple and keep doing it. Focus on perfecting a simple system that can become a part of your lifestyle. Before you know it you’ll arrive at the better your soul is chasing.
Be bold. Be brave. Be free.
Tell Me More:
- Ask God to show you the vision of your healthiest self.
- Define one area of growth that will move you in this direction.
- Reverse engineer this identity-based goal into a simple system you can follow in three steps or less on a daily basis.
