Fear is a bully. A cruel, browbeating tyrant that shouts insults at us when we are at our lowest. With no room to breathe or think, fear capitalizes on our weakness.

If you’ve been stuck in a self-defeating cycle with a bad habit, negative mindset, or pattern of anxiety then you know what it’s like to be abused by fear.

Our thoughts, full of dread, play on loop as negative narratives and threaten to expose our greatest fears. We hide to escape the backlash of being found out or worst held accountable for our vulnerability. We wonder how can I be so weak? I know better so why can’t I do better? Why can’t I change?

Although it doesn’t feel like it, we can change and this is how.

God has given us something of great value, and it’s big! As Christians we have access to divine power.

Yes. Divine power. We are assured of this in Scripture. In fact, it’s referenced in many different places of the Bible. It’s His spirit, the Holy Spirit that gives us divine power to do things we can’t do on our own. Which means His power is at work within us and is the door to the wisdom we need to overcome the fear that is fighting hard to keep us small and stuck in the old order of things.

So next time fear threatens your peace remember you have a power source greater than anything you can produce on your own.

”He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. (John 14:17)

  • Does fear play on loop in your mind as a negative narrative? If so, what is the script you hear?
  • How have you seen fear diminish in your life because you decided to believe God’s power to transform your thoughts?
  • What fears do you find the most difficult to overcome in your everyday life? Why? How can you give those fears to God?

Prayer is just a conversation with God. Talk to Him about what you learned and what you need from Him today.

Be bold. Be brave. Be free.
