Yesterday we unpacked the importance of turning our eyes and therefore our thoughts away from the one thing, be it a habit, behavior, or pattern of anxiety that continues to hold us hostage. So where do we set our sights and put our focus if it’s not on what is so tempting to us?
Research suggests that goals are like rudders on a ship. They set the direction and guide us toward our desired destination. With this in mind, let’s take our eyes off the old order of things and set our sights to sail in the new direction we want to go. The new habit we want to adopt while we ditch the old one.
We’ve spent a lot of time, energy and probably money on entertaining things that kill our joy, steal our sanity, and destroy our confidence.
Today could be your day. The day you decide it’s time to make the change. To try something different.
Whatever habit you have that you’re working hard to change, your charge is to deny it the attention it craves and instead focus your attention on where you want to go. Let the new target be your goal. Your guidepost signaling the way onward.
Even if you veer offtrack, you have a solid roadmap to get you back on track.
”Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.“ (Ephesians 4:23-24)
- Think about what your habit or behavior costs you. Time, money, sanity? Something else?
- Are you ready to say goodbye and set your sights on a better you?
- What can you do to redirect your thoughts from the old order of habit to a new and better one?
Prayer is just a conversation with God. Talk to Him about what you learned and what you need from Him today.
Be bold. Be brave. Be free.
