Much of the content here at Beyond The Craving is centered around principles and practices that foster a better life. We believe we were built for better but sometimes we can’t seem to put it into practice. This process of looking for lessons in our losses is a chance to do just that.
If we truly believe that there’s purpose in our pain we must be willing to look for it in the midst of loss, grief, and anger. This will cause us to stretch our faith and look just beyond the loss to the lesson waiting to be learned.
When approaching what feels like a loss we must first consider God’s ‘no’ or ‘not yet’ to be an opportunity for insight. Capitalize on the moment and look for the lesson. Yet, keep in mind our feelings have a strong voice and they tend to dictate what we believe about our situations. But they can’t be trusted. Remind them that they are better indicators than they are dictators. For this reason they need to be challenged.
Second, assign a value to the lesson and how it can and will change you, transform you, or spur you on to becoming more of who you were created to be. This is part of the growth process and it will stretch you. Lean in and let it.
Finally, celebrate the work you’ve done by taking another step into your new normal. Thank God for seeing a better tomorrow and offering you an opportunity to do the same.
But don’t get me wrong, this is not a practice of mind over matter. Loss is hard. Period. What I am asking you to do is to choose to trust God to use it for good—your good and His good purpose in you.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.“ (Isaiah 55:9)
