Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go.” (Isaiah 30:21)
What do you do when you don’t know what to do? Or you do know what to do and you can’t seem to make yourself do it?
In these moments of indecisiveness we could use a little help. A little wisdom. Maybe even a little nudge to get us going in the right direction. And yet, it’s precisely in these moments when emotions are high and resolve is low that we find it so difficult to stop the speeding train of a bad decision, habit, or impulse.
Fortunately, we have access to wisdom and power beyond our own but in order to hear it and heed it, we need to press pause and listen.
The tricky part is capitalizing on the opportunity when it presents itself. And the best way to do this is to use our impulse indicators. They are similar to the ‘check engine’ light on the dashboard of your car. Watch for them. They will tell you when you are on the brink of a bad decision.
Once you know what to look for you can use them to prompt a time out. Taking a time out when emotions are high can stop a downward spiral in its track. In doing so, you are making room to change your mind and make a better decision.
This battle happens in your mind. And it is won or lost in a split second. If you don’t seize the moment when it happens you are at risk to miss it. So don’t miss your moment. Take a time out and listen for God’s direction. He will tell you which way to go.
Be bold. Be brave. Be free.
