See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland ~Isaiah 43:19

It was Albert Einstein who said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” So why do we do this? Why do we get stuck doing the same thing even when it clearly isn’t working?

Well, I’m not sure about you but for me, I want a fast fix, one that doesn’t require too much work. Especially when it comes to making changes in how I think, behave, and react. Those parts of me are hardwired into my personality for reasons I don’t always understand.

And yet, I’ve been walking with God long enough to know that He never seems to be in a big rush to fix me. I am but He’s not because change takes time and growth is part of the process.

I love our verse for this week. Take a second to read it slowly. Enjoy the picture God is painting. It’s full of wonder and expectation. Vibrant color, beauty, and the essence of life—it’s all there waiting for us to take notice of it.

Author, Ann Patchett penned it this way, “Never be so focused on what you’re looking for that you overlook the thing you actually find.”

In other words, pay attention. Be open to new attitudes, options, and new approaches to the things that keep you stuck in the same old crazy-making stuff!

The only risk lies in near misses and blatant diversions. Truth is, no one rides for free. Our challenge this week is to do the work. Don’t be so quick to take a shortcut. Slow down and take notice. God has something new for you to see.

Be bold. Be brave. Be free.

Tell Me More:

  • Are you at risk to miss what God has for you in this season of life or difficult situation because you’re focusing on the fast fix?
  • What work do you need to do in this situation to see more of God and less of you?
  • Make an effort to slow down and let God lead the way.
