Joshua 1:9; Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Do you have the courage to change? This is a great time to challenge yourself. Take a moment to stop and consider the changes you want to make. Are they realistic? Clear? Consistent with who you desire to be? Clarifying your motivation for making these changes will set the stage for success.
When things aren’t working, or worse, working against you, you will need courage, and a lot of it. Often times, making necessary changes will take more than you have to give. You will need to make an investment of trust in God’s ability to provide what you need, when you need it.
This investment of trust is important because the call to courage comes as a call to action. Especially in the face of fear. Why? Because fear has a fierce and authoritative voice when it comes to change.
Quiet your mind and listen. Make a mental note of how fear talks to you. What does it say? How does it say it? Do you hear the same argument every time you make a move to change something in your life that isn’t working?
If you are anything like me I can hear it clear as a bell. The voice of fear is mean and threatening. Degrading and callous. When I’m tired and defeated I let it run me over in a flash without even a hint of resistance. But this, my friend, is our charge. Our call to action. Turn off the voice of fear and turn on the voice of courage.
This is a practice of mental shifting. Don’t spend too much time on the negative thoughts. They are destructive and a waste of your time and energy. Shifting your thoughts to prayer and scripturally based affirmations produces confidence and courage. Trust me, this works!
You may wonder if courage is a metric of strength. Or the mark of a wild heart. Honestly, I think it’s both. This life requires courage. And there’s no doubt that God has called us to it. Even more so is the inherent command to take it! Almost as if He is saying to take it by force, otherwise we might not get it.
We see this consistently throughout the Bible—Joshua leading the masses to the Promise Land; Ester taking a stand even in the face of her own death; Peter stepping out of the boat in a moment of supernatural courage. Each person made an intentional choice to quiet the voice of fear, and instead, focus on God’s voice to take one brave step of obedience.
Next time fear demands to be heard, make a choice to quiet the fear with the confidence in your creator. God is calling you to courage. Why wait any longer? Go ahead, answer the call and take one brave step in the right direction.
