Do you have the courage to change? No, really? Change is hard. We don’t like to change because it’s uncomfortable and it takes courage to sit in the discomfort of change.

Have I mentioned I’m glad you’re here? I think you’re brave and you’re willingness to be here is courageous, indeed!

And since you’re here, this is a great time to challenge yourself. Take a moment to stop and consider the changes you want to make. What are they and why do you want to make them?

When things aren’t working, or worse, working against you, you will need courage, and a lot of it. Often times, making necessary changes will take more than you have to give. Willpower won’t be enough. You will need to trust God to provide what you need, when you need it.

This investment of trust is important because change requires action, and action incites fear.

Quiet your mind and listen. Make a mental note of how fear talks to you. What does it say? How does it say it? Do you hear the same argument every time you make a move to change this ONE THING?

If you are anything like me I can hear it clear as a bell. The voice of fear is mean and threatening. Degrading and callous. When I’m tired and defeated I let it run me over in a flash without even a hint of resistance. But this, my friend, is our charge. Our call to action. Turn off the voice of fear and turn on the voice of courage.

You might have to dig deep to find it, but it’s there.

This is a practice of mental shifting. Don’t spend too much time on the negative thoughts. They are just loud shouts of fear. They are destructive and a waste of your time and energy. Shifting your thoughts by saying a quick prayer for help produces confidence and courage. Trust me, this works!

You may wonder if courage is a metric of strength. Or the mark of a wild heart. Honestly, this life requires a bit of both. And there’s no doubt that God has called us to be strong and courageous.

We see this consistently throughout the Bible—Joshua leading the masses to the Promise Land; Ester taking a stand even in the face of her own death; Peter stepping out of the boat in a moment of supernatural courage. Each person made an intentional choice to quiet the voice of fear, and instead, focus on God’s voice to take one brave step of obedience.

Next time fear demands to be heard, make a choice to quiet the fear with confidence in your creator. God is calling you to courage and He will be with you every step of the way. Why wait any longer? A brave step today will change your tomorrow!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
