Making the right choice during an emotional storm surge is tough. That’s a fact.

But did you know that God gives us a promise in these high octane moments when it comes to making difficult choices? Yep. He promises us that He will indeed provide a way out—an escape if you will—for every temptation we encounter?

I call it: The God Door.

To be clear He did not say we would not be tempted. In fact, temptation is a sure thing. Being naive only serves to weaken our resolve.

We are to expect it and prepare for it.

But even in the throes of temptation, we have hope for His help. So be on the lookout for ‘The God Door’ next time temptation comes knocking.

To do so a pre-commitment to pivot from impulse and take The God Door requires readiness and intention because escape will not happen because you want it to happen; it will happen because you decide it will happen.

This move—changing your mind in the moment of temptation—is the pivot point on which the tide of your success will turn. Simply put, pivoting is changing directions. But in order to change directions you must first change your mind.

Will it be easy? No. But don’t let the negative chatter talk you out of this.

When we choose to trust God instead of giving into our impulses we find the sense of urgency lessens with each step forward and we gain strength to try it again the next time we find ourselves in the same situation.

Speed is also imperative to the pivot. The faster you make this decision, the greater your chances of escape will be.

Keep in mind, most of us have a predictable pattern of behavior that has developed as a result of our craving. This is called our CRAVE routine. Putting a pivot in place and changing just one part of the CRAVE routine will alter the course of what you do and in turn set you up for greater success.

Our exercise for today is to make a decision. To decide before the temptation arrives to look for God in the frenzy, to focus on Him—not the temptation—and allow Him to show us the way out.

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

  • What is one small but very intentional change you can make to your CRAVE routine?
  • What guardrails can you set up to act as boundaries to keep you on track and moving towards the change you desire?
  • What guideposts can you look for this week to act as reminders that God is present in your current struggle?

Prayer is just a conversation with God. Talk to Him about what you learned and what you need from Him today.

Be bold. Be brave. Be free.
