Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us ~Hebrews 12:1
As we build upon the first two lifestyle habits we will set our sights, this week, on our third habit: Intention.
All things considered, setting an intention is about identifying what you want to accomplish through your actions. Moreover, an intention can be broad or more narrow in its focus as long as it aligns to values you hold close.
Important to remember is that your intention is like the rudder of a ship, it will set the course and steer you where you want to go. It won’t get you there, but it sets you in the right direction.
The point is to make your intention simple and clear so you can default to it time and again. Doing so sets the stage for success.
With this in mind, set your intention to align with a purpose by letting your ‘Why’ lead the way. This will not only help you accomplish the change you want to make but creates momentum toward a life of depth and meaning.
Consequently, progress toward the set intention will only happen by utilizing the practice of focus. Truth is, life happens. Storms will swell and distractions will come your way. Learning how to navigate these pitfalls with the practice of focus will help you right the ship.
Even so, focus is a muscle that will need to develop over time. A simple verbal cue of saying the word, “Focus” helps me. Try using it today to reset you in the direction of your intention when you find yourself veering off course.
Be bold. Be brave. Be free.
Tell Me More:
- What intention would you like to set for this season of life? Will it require a specific change you need to make?
- Identify the ‘why’ of your want, and what you would like to accomplish as a result of this intention.
- Create a simple cue you can use to help cultivate focus when you veer off-course? Use it often.
