Sin is a tough word, isn’t it?
Nobody likes it. It even tastes harsh as it rolls off the tongue. Especially in a culture that likes to sugarcoat everything that causes discomfort or division. And yet, when we don’t acknowledge that sin is the way we know right from wrong then we miss the core message of the gospel: the transformative power of Christ’s love and grace through redemption.
That said, redemption is only possible by way of forgiveness—forgiveness of our sin. But so many of us get stuck in unforgiveness, why?
Sin is a little word with a big meaning. What does it mean for you?
If it stings just a bit then it might be a result of an experience you’ve had or something you heard along the way. Perhaps how you were brought up or a belief system gone awry. All of these things influence how we interpret life and our understanding of faith, religion, and a word like sin.
If you find that this word is a thorn in your side that causes you to flinch or recoil from the beauty and gift of forgiveness then let me encourage you as Paul does so well in Romans 8:1 that we have an assurance and freedom from the weight and power of sin.
There is no limit to the love of Christ. He died once and for all of us. His mercy is new every morning. You can take that to the spiritual bank.
Today, take some time thanking God for this gift. Ask Him to help you accept it, to appropriate it each and every time you need it. He loves you so much and wants you to live in the freedom He created just for you.
“There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
- Is there a mistake from your past for which you’re having trouble forgiving yourself? What do you need to do about it now?
- How do you feel about the word: sin? Do you believe conviction of sin as a gift?
- Why do you think some people find it so difficult to accept Jesus’ forgiveness for their sins?
Prayer is just a conversation with God. Talk to Him about what you learned and what you need from Him today.
Be bold. Be brave. Be free.
